Trajan’s ‘National Show’ returns after prolonged pandemic hiatus

By Jesse Robitaille
For the first time in more than two years, collectors will be treated to a major stamp and coin show.
Trajan Publishing’s next National Postage Stamp & Coin Show is scheduled for April 9-10 at its usual venue, the Hilton Mississauga/Meadowvale hotel, in northwestern Mississauga, Ont. While organizers have been forced to forgo some of the show’s usual events, including the seminars and young collectors program, attendees can expect a roughly 50-dealer stamp and coin bourse plus a competitive philatelic exhibition from the North Toronto Stamp Club (NTSC).

After more than two years without major in-person shows, both collectors and dealers are eager to return to the bourse.

“No doubt, there is a pent-up demand for the shows to return, and after a two-year absence, we are looking forward to bringing the show back,” said Mike Walsh, Trajan’s managing partner and CSN’s editor, who added provincial regulations – expected to be mostly pulled back by mid-March – will determine exactly how the show is held. “Unfortunately, due to the uncertainly still created by COVID, there will be no seminars or young collectors table and auction at the spring show.”

Trajan’s upcoming show will also feature a two-session “Premier Auction” on April 8-9, presented by Colonial Acres.
Mostly a numismatic auction featuring rarities such as key-date decimal coins, paper money, tokens and “spectacular errors,” according to auctioneers, it will be previewed in the next issue of Canadian Coin News (Vol. 59 #26), which Trajan also publishes. For further details on the auction, visit
Hosted each spring and fall before COVID-19, the two-day National Show typically includes 50 dealers on the bourse. Walsh expects this spring’s bourse will be sold out.
A full list of attending dealers, complete with brief biographies, will be published on in the weeks leading up to the show.
The Ontario Numismatic Association (ONA) decided in January to postpone its annual convention from April until  September. The ONA planned to hold its spring convention in conjunction with the Trajan show.
The ONA 2022 Convention will now be held on Sept. 9-10 in Mississauga, Ont., in conjunction with the fall National Postage Stamp & Coin Show.

Returning to a pre-pandemic tradition, the NTSC will once again host its annual springtime exhibition at this April’s show.
“Exhibiting is a really important part of stamp collecting because we’re able to see things we might never be able to acquire, and the exhibitor has deeply studied and organized their material and found out what material might be needed to go forward,” NTSC Exhibition Committee Chair John Wilson told CSN in February 2020, just weeks before that year’s spring show and exhibition were cancelled due to COVID-19.
