New Ontario club challenge at Spring Show

Excitement is building for the April 11–12, 2026 National Postage Stamp and Coin Show as the North Toronto Stamp Club launches a brand-new competitive event — the Garfield Portch Ontario Club Single Frame Competition.

Making its debut at the NTSC’s 83rd Annual Exhibition, this new inter-club challenge is designed to encourage exhibiting and spark friendly rivalry among Ontario stamp clubs.

The competition honours respected Toronto philatelist Garfield Portch, who has served for many years on the board of the Vincent Graves Greene Philatelic Research Foundation. The new annual trophy celebrates both his contribution to organized philately and the strength of club-level participation in competitive exhibiting.

HOW IT WORKS

Ontario-based philatelic clubs that are members of the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada may enter three single-frame exhibits (16 pages per frame). The club with the highest combined score — as determined by nationally accredited judges — will take home the trophy.

Exhibitors simply indicate on their entry form that their one-frame exhibit is to be included in the club competition and name the club they are representing. If more than three members from one club enter, the club will select the three exhibits to count toward the competition total.

The winning club will host the Garfield Portch Trophy for six months before it is displayed at the Vincent Graves Greene Philatelic Research Foundation until the next competition.

The competition will be held during the Spring National Show at the Hilton Mississauga/Meadowvale Hotel — one of Canada’s premier collecting events.
