Philatelists from across Canada will converge on Mississauga this Sept. 6–7 for the fall edition of the National Postage Stamp & Coin Show – a two-day gathering that brings together stamps, literature, photography and expert knowledge under one roof.
Held at the Hilton Mississauga/Meadowvale in Mississauga, Ont., the show features approximately 50 of Canada’s top philatelic and numismatic dealers – many bringing fresh stock and new treasures for the fall season.
Among the show’s most anticipated highlights is the appearance of Robin Harris, editor of the newly released Trajan Canada Specialized Stamp Catalogue. He will be available throughout the weekend to autograph copies of the inaugural edition. Tailored to Canadian collectors, the catalogue uses the Scott Numbering System and features specialized, Canada-only listings – making it an essential reference for both advanced and beginning collectors.
Copies of the new catalogue will also be available for purchase at the Canadian Stamp News and Canadian Coin News tables, located in the main entrance.
This fall’s bourse welcomes several first-time exhibitors bringing unique offerings to the philatelic community.
Howard Engel of Winnipeg’s Richard Stockley Books will offer a carefully curated range of philatelic literature – including out-of-print, rare and sought-after titles. Collectors looking to expand their hobby libraries will find Engel’s booth a must-visit stop.
Denis Richard of Coin Photography Studio will provide on-site, professional-grade photography for coins, medals and select philatelic material. With more than 30 years of experience photographing collections for collectors, dealers and museums, Richard offers attendees the rare chance to obtain high-resolution images on the spot. Each customer may submit up to 10 items. Advance inquiries can be sent to coinphotographystudio@gmail.com.
Also making his show debut is Peter McDonald of PM Coins, based in Kirkland, Quebec. With more than 47 years of experience in the collectibles field – including serving as a distributor for Royal Canadian Mint products and coordinating major Quebec auctions – McDonald is widely recognized in both the philatelic and numismatic communities. In 2018, he was honoured with the RCNA’s Charles D. Moore Award.
A returning favourite is the Harry Sutherland Library Book Sale, hosted by the Vincent Graves Greene Philatelic Research Foundation. The Greene’s table will feature a wide selection of surplus books and periodicals – both Canadian and international – available for purchase by cash only. The sale offers collectors an excellent opportunity to expand their philatelic libraries at discounted prices while supporting one of Canada’s leading philatelic institutions.
The show floor, now completely sold out, includes a mix of philatelic and postal-history specialists across the main and side halls. Organizers anticipate strong attendance as the hobby resumes full swing following the summer lull.
The show also continues to support young collectors through its ever-popular Youth Table, hosted by the Royal Canadian Numismatic Association and coordinated by national youth program leader Cassidy Stroud. A short educational workshop will be followed by the Youth Auction on Sunday at 1 p.m. Registration begins at noon, and participation is free for all youth.
The National Postage Stamp & Coin Show takes place Saturday, Sept. 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Hilton Mississauga/Meadowvale. Admission is $6 on Saturday and $3 on Sunday. Free parking is available, but attendees must register their vehicles at the admission desk – while the hotel’s parking machines remain active during the event, no refunds will be issued for payments made at those terminals.
Admission also includes free copies of Canadian Stamp News and Canadian Coin News – a $13.00 value if purchased separately.
Full details and exhibitor listings are available on the show website: www.stampandcoinshow.com. Also in this issue of Canadian Stamp News is a four-page show preview, including full dealer listings, booth map and event highlights – see pages 18-21.
